Why Do Children Need to See a Doctor So Frequently?
Prevent illness and injury.
For children aged 18 and under, the
American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the following vaccination regimen.
Immunizations are meant to keep you healthy. Well-child check-ups are also an
excellent opportunity to talk about general safety in your home, child's daycare, or school to avoid harm.
Track growth and development:
Your child's height, weight, head
circumference, and milestones are measured at good visits. This enables your
pediatrician to monitor their growth and development and spot any issues.
Hearing, vision, and other screening tests may also be performed during the
appointment.
Raise concerns:
Do you have concerns about your
child's size? Maybe you have a fussy eater on your hands, or you're certain
they'll be in diapers until they're five. Your pediatrician's well-child
appointments are the ideal opportunity to share these and other concerns with
him or her. Throughout the year, jot down your questions in the Notes app on
your phone. And don't forget that physical well-being is just as
essential as mental well-being. Perhaps you've noticed your child is quieter
than normal, or that they've lost interest in some of their favorite
activities. It's something you should discuss with your doctor. Maybe this is
typical pre-adolescent or adolescent behavior, and maybe it isn't. Your
healthcare practitioner can assist you in identifying the source of the problem
or send you to someone who can.
It's critical to choose a provider
you like and connect with early on in your child's life. After all, you'll be
seeing them at least once a year, and in most cases, more frequently, for the next
18 years. Going to the same doctor for every appointment, sick or not,
establishes trust and consistency. The more your doctor understands
your child's medical history as well as your family's beliefs, the better
treatment they can give.
Attending well check-ups on a
regular basis during your child's childhood also aids their transition to adult
care when the time comes. You're modeling what a doctor-patient relationship
should be like with the aid of your physician, and demonstrating how being proactive
can lead to a healthier life.
